Top to bottom renovated cabin in the Huron National Forest with Air Conditioning and WiFi.

Located directly on the national forest trailhead for miles of ATV riding, biking, and snowmobiling; pull out of the driveway and go (all the way to Lake Huron if you're up for it!). Just a couple miles away from 60+ lakes and the AuSable river. Go tubing, kayaking, canoeing or relax on one of the nearby public beaches. Find a boat launch and fish until dark or spend your days hiking the trails and admiring scenic overlooks along the Au Sable River.

Pets are more than welcome here!

Got pets? You've come to the right listing. We have a Doberman so we know what it's like trying to find a sitter, let alone being apart. It's not a vacation without them! Well-behaved dogs, big and small are welcome. Please, give us a call before booking with pets.

Fenced Yard

Let your dogs run free in the backyard. No packing the dog leads or countless trips around the tree to untangle the dogs. We've got a completely fenced yard for your pets and some extra privacy along either side of the property. The split log pickets are a perfect mix of up-north feel and added seclusion.

Everything you'll need is included

Fully furnished with linens and towels. No need to waste space in your luggage trying to pack sheets and pillows; it's crowded enough on the trip!

We've also got all of the pots, pans, silverware, and general dinnerware you could possibly need. There's a microwave, coffee maker, and toaster in addition to the refrigerator and stove.

For the nights you decide to spend indoors, we provide free access to high speed (60 MB/s) WiFi, Netflix, Amazon Prime Movies/Shows, Premium Channel Networks, and Cable TV.

Keep the kids occupied with children's movies or spend a rainy night in catching up on your favorite shows.

Bringing some work/study with you on vacation? The WiFi is more than capable of handling all of your internet needs including multi-person video conferencing.

Get away on a day trip

Aside from all the forest has to offer, the cabin's not far from tons more. Wicker Hills golf course is only 5 minutes away (professional 18 hole course). Rose City, just 15 min away has two awesome wineries with free wine tasting. In under an hour you could be on a Lake Huron beach or over in West Branch doing some shopping at the outlet mall.

Perfect for Outdoor Adventures

The cabin is located directly on Butler/Jose Lake Trail that runs through the Huron National Forest. Take off out of the driveway and you're on your way down miles of ATV trail. Come winter time, snowmobilers will be hard-pressed to find a better rental.

Not into trail riding? We're located on a residential road where everyone passing by is extremely courteous.

How about some cabin charm?

We've got that too. Awesome knotty pine interior, real fieldstone fireplace, wood pane windows, original wood floors, and plenty of new touches that makes the Hunger & Ransom cabin so much more than a boring, new build rental.

Rain or shine, take in all the up-north greatness under our covered outdoor area. Enjoy a BBQ dinner and unwind by the fire pit. Spending time outside in beautiful Northern Michigan is why you're looking to get away as it is, right?

We do our best to make it Affordable

We know the pains of finding a cabin and what's most important when choosing the best one. That's why we allow pets, offer free high-speed internet (60 mb/s), and forgo cleaning fees when you book extended times.

Get in touch. I'll call/text/email back right away

If you have any questions, please contact us. I do my best to respond to every inquiry as quickly as possible. If you're already in love with the Hunger & Ransom cabin, go ahead and book it now!

Enjoy your stay and we can't wait to have you back!

You couldn't even tell there have been so many dogs in and out with how clean it was and the fresh smells of the cabin. I had no cell service (which was great since we were on vacation!) but the wifi was incredibly fast allowing us to keep in touch as needed. Aaron was extremely quick to respond to any questions and gave use great recommendations for hiking trails in the area. It was a great experience for our first time trying one of these rental apps and we will definitely be back.

Blankets on the beds were on the thin side even for summer with no extras if you have a full house so bring a couple extras with you. Cabin wasn't well stocked with toilet paper, paper towel or dish rags/hand towels for the length of our stay and we had to buy extra paper products. Cabin is surrounded by neighbors with free roaming cats, neighbors were friendly though. The fenced in yard is nice for dogs but yard is mostly dirt/sand so expect a dirty dog! Dollar game was a quirky fun game to play and the wifi and Roku came in handy on a rainy day. Aaron was very friendly and easily reached over air b&b messenger check in was easy and cut and dry. Cabin was easy to locate and a gps will take you right to it. Over all we had a nice stay but if you're looking for a more secluded feel this isn't the place for you.

We had the best time at the Cabin In The Woods over a long 3 day weekend. The cabin was sparkling clean, super comfortable, and was all we were expecting and more. The location felt remote, but was quite nearby a general store and other amenities in South Branch. My husband and I made the trip along with our two medium sized dogs, who were SO glad to have a nice big fenced yard to run around in (instead of being on leads or leashes the entire time the way they've had to with other rentals or when camping - which is also a mega pain for mom and dad!). The yard had a ton of shade, so even on a day when it reached over 90 degrees, we were completely comfortable just to hang outside in the shade under the trees and under the covered patio to enjoy the surroundings. We made use of the fire ring for smores and the bbq...just a great, pretty, relaxing setting. The cabin had lots of cute little thoughtful decorative touches throughout, and a fully functional kitchen, stocked with all the conveniences we'd ever need. Aaron was A+ as a host: responsive, friendly and helpful when we had a few questions. Even though we didn't visit in order to spend the entire time on the internet, the WiFi was a fantastic convenience, as was the air conditioning. There was a beautiful wooded trail just a few hundred steps from the front door of the cabin, and we made great use of it with the dogs each day. Because of the location of the nearby trails, there was some noticeable ATV/motorbike traffic throughout the day on Saturday, and there was some noise associated with it, but it didn't bother us. We wish we had more time at the cabin, and are already checking the calendar to find when we can make our next visit! Would absolutely recommend this property.

The only downside if there is one is that the wiring in the house seems a bit old and needs updated. We went to the Tawas Point National Park twice and saw the lighthouse and took our dog Daisy to the pet friendly beach. That was super fun. Also, on the way up there we saw a place called Snow Snake about 1 1/2 hrs away in Harrison, MI, that did zip line tours. We drove back and did that, and it was well worth the drive. So fun! Just driving around seeing the Huron National Forest was gorgeous. The cabin was quiet, clean and the beds were comfy. The one bathroom was a tight squeeze for our slightly bigger group, but we made it work. Daisy enjoyed the fenced in yard and took walks down the ATV path at the end of the quiet street. Aaron, the owner, was super responsive to any concerns. I would say I recommend this location to anyone looking to get away from it all. You will enjoy it. :) We hope to come back!

We booked the cabin for my birthday weekend, specifically to give us a break from taking our 5 month old puppies outside on a leash every couple of hours. They loved the backyard and we were able to really relax! The cabin is cozy and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The only downfalls were the extremely tiny bathroom, low water pressure, and noisy water pump. We stayed for 3 full days which was the perfect amount of time to explore the small towns in the area without getting bored. The guest book and dollar bill game made us feel like we knew the past guests and were leaving our own legacy. We went on an off road vehicle trail with our Jeep (trailhead for large vehicles is about a mile west on the same road as the cabin). The birch trees and fall colors were picturesque. We also toured Rose Valley Winery, the Dusty Rose antique shop, and flea market. Everyone we met was friendly and we felt very welcome. It was also great to be able to get some work done since we both run our own businesses and are never off the clock. The internet speeds/connectivity and access to Netflix were great. I highly suggest bringing your own food to cook meals since there are only 2 small general stores and a few bars within 20 minutes or so. You'll have everything you need, including condiments and baking essentials. Aaron was very responsive to all of my questions and was even willing to mail us back an item that we forgot to grab. We would stay here again without hesitation, maybe in the winter or summer to try out snowmobiling and the lake!

When looking for place to stay we had three must-haves, a cabin feel, pet friendly and a real fireplace. First two items were spot on and we loved how accepting Aaron was knowing we had two small dogs. During our trip north from down state, I spent the last 10 miles or so scoping out places to buy firewood for a weekend of sitting around the massive stone fireplace. To our families dismay when we arrived a note on the fireplace said that it was not functional. When the temp is in the teens, the cabin really needs the additional heat source. The baseboard heaters ran all weekend in an attempt to maintain. I would expect this is not an issue 95% of the time, we just happened to book for a cold snap. Loved the fenced back yard and we all had fun with the "dollar game". I would NOT rent again unless the fireplace was functioning and I would buy slippers.

The cabin is perfect if you are traveling with your dogs, it is so nice to find a cozy comfortable place with a fenced yard. South Branch is a nice area and close to several other small towns. There are a couple of great wineries in Rose City, The best place we found to eat was Cedar Tavern, but we also went to Long Lake Bar a couple of times since it is so close to the house! A store is really convenient as well, just a couple minutes away. Dealing with our hosts was always easy and comfortable, and they responded quickly to questions. And there's some great places nearby so if you want to stay in and order a pizza you can get a good one, or if you want to go to a bar and get a beer that's just down the road.

There are 4 wheeler/snowmobile trails at the end of the street. We had a good time walking the dog through those trails. It was raining one morning, so having the bluray player and netflix was great. There are a few wineries in the next town, which are a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this cabin if you just want to get away from the world and relax.

With only 40 minutes from the beach and around 11 minutes from Hale there was a ton to do! I would highly recommend this cabin!

This Cabin was a great place to take my family for a vacation. Nice and clean and was perfect for the 7 of us (5 adults and 2 children). The area was perfect to run into Oscoda or Tawas to use the beach, miniature golf, great ice cream in East Tawas and more. So much to do and not enough time to do it. The Cabin was a beautiful little cabin that had everything we needed for a nice comfortable stay. The yard was spacious and private with the really cool privacy fence and was really helpful to keep our dog within the yard and safe from running off. We had several dinners under the canopy and really appreciated the ceiling fan located out there. The fire pit was perfect for our fires (we like them big). I could go on and on but overall a great place to go for a vacation and we plan on coming back.

We took our jeep out on some off road trails which was very fun. We went to Alcona state park and did some fishing on the Ausable river and also off the dam which is located on loud dam road:) The scenery is just beautiful! I highly recommend staying at the Hunger and Ransom cabin. We would definitley stay again. Aaron was so nice to work with. Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It's roomy, nicely decorated and we'll maintained. We especially liked the fact that we had all of the conveniences of home; wi-fi, Netflix, etc. Very friendly and responsive hosts too!

The cabin pictures represent the property very well, it's tidy & clean and included everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable, and access to NetFlix is an advantage if you like movies. We found the neighborhood quite peaceful, and loved seeing the Trumpeter Swans on a nearby lake. Also good nightly rate, and no extra cleaning fee. Thanks Aaron!

This was our first time at this cabin and it was perfect. It's 2 houses down from the trail head for the Huron Trail, we rode 70 miles on the trail we had a blast. Aaron was awesome to work with. The best part of this cabin is that we got to bring our 3 small dogs. We'll be back, the location is perfect.

This is our second time staying in this cabin.....We enjoyed it so much during the summer that we came back for a weekend this fall. The minute we pull up to the cabin, we get a great feeling. When we open the door, we are certainly NOT disappointed! Inside is so welcoming and cozy. There is everything we need right at our fingertips. The cabin is very neat and tidy with plenty of room for the family and our puppy. We really appreciated being able to bring our pet along! At the back of the cabin, we enjoyed a barbecue and had a great dinner. In the evening, we sat outside around the fire and relaxed. The owners are great hosts.....very accommodating, helpful and friendly - much appreciated in this crazy world! We will definitely be back next summer for more rest and relaxation in this "perfect cabin"!

What a find! 4 adults, 2 kids. Arrived late Thurs, Departed early Sunday. Wonderful days of exploring the area in the day and relaxing in & around the Cabin at night. BBQ, Firepit, Hammock, Great bedroom arrangments for Kids & Couples. We loved everything about the cabin, had everything we needed and then some. Short, Beatiful Drive to Oscada Beach State Park. The forest areas are amazing. Check out all the scenic overlooks you can. Owner EZ to do business with and very responsive. Clean and well updated the Cabin was all we needed for our home away from home adventures. We just scratched the surface on what the area has to offer and can not wait to return. I would reccomend this VRBO without hesitation. Everything listed about the property is accurate. It was our first time using VRBO and have no complaints! Wish could have stayed longer.

We recently stayed 3 nights over the July fourth holiday. The cabin was well equipped with everything our group of 7 needed. Our children (ages 7,8,11) absolutely loved the bunk room! The beds were all very comfortable, with clean crisp linens. We enjoyed the decor of the cabin; very rustic with a homemade feel, but comfortable and very clean. The large table in the dinning room was a great gathering place as was the large table in the backyard. We had a nice conversation with the neighbors and enjoyed making trips to the general store for ice cream that is just down the road. I would say the only slightly negative of this cabin is the close proximity of the neighbors, as the cabin is located on a dirt/gravel road that has 8 or 9 other houses on it. There is adequate room on the property, but you can most definitely see the neighbors. I would advise against foot traffic on the trail head that is two houses down from the cabin - as it is a high use ATV trail. With that said, the ATV users we saw using the trail were mostly nice and considerate. There is a great (small) swimming beach on a lake about a 10 minute drive from the cabin. This was great for our kids. Overall- we had a wonderful stay and would recommend this cabin to anyone who is looking for an Up North stay that is somewhat more rustic. We have already recommended this cabin to several of our friends.
